Out for a walk/bikeride
Here are some pictures of Meredith's first walk and Logan's first bike ride. His new bike was a gift from his sister. He has mastered the brakes, but is still learning the concept of pedaling. He likes it much better when dad just pushes him :-). He did want to go off-roading so Andrew took him out in the tree farm on the training wheels. I'm sure he'll be mountain biking in no time...
1 Week Old
Happy 1 week Birthday to Meredith! We have been home since Saturday and Meredith is doing great. We went to the doctors yesterday and she is holding steady at 7 lbs. 10 oz. We go back next week to make sure her weight is going up...I am sure it will...she is a great eater and a wonderful sleeper. Knock on wood...but we have a little girl who doesn't cry much and loves to sleep! Andrew and I are doing good...we are tired but not nearly as tired as we were with Logan when he was a newborn. We attribute it to the fact that Meredith sleeps a lot better than Logan did and the whole baby thing is much easier the second time around. Here are some pictures of Meredith from the past couple days:
Logan is wonderful with Meredith. He is very gentle with her and when she cries, he tells her "it will be OK". He often just looks at her and laughs...he thinks she is funny?!! And if Meredith happens to be out of his eyesight, he asks "Where's my sister?". Yesterday morning Logan decided to sit next to Meredith and have his breakfast with her.

Homecoming
The four long days at the hospital are finally over and everyone got to come home today. We packed up the minvan and left Parkland Medical for Meredith's real home. They were very strict with what I could do as we checked out. I couldn't hold the baby outside the room, I couldn't pick her up once she was in the car seat, and I couldn't wheel Mollie out to the car. Once we got out there the nurse just looked at me - not knowing this was my moment to shine - I just looked back. Apparently, I need to be the one that puts the car seat in the base. She did commend me for how tight the base was though. (I was sitting on it as I pulled the straps tight)
Once we got everyone in the car, we took the same double mirror shot we had of Logan on February 22, 2006... At least it wasn't snowing in this picture.
So here we are home together and ready to sleep through the night - Come on Meredith, I have faith in you...

Day 3

Feel free to post comments and just say hi to Meredith and Mollie. I think the link is at the bottom of each post.
Day 3 was just s great as the first two. Meredith and Mollie are both doing great. Meredith is losing a little weight so we are keeping track of that closely. Same thing we went through with Logan and it certainly isn't permanent.
Mollie got another visitor when Amy came by to see her and Meredith.
There has only been one other baby at the hospital on any given day so Mollie has been getting waited on hand and foot. That is great for her but seldom left much time for me to get some 1:1 time. I took an opportunity from a break in the action to get some father/daughter bonding time.

Day 2
Meredith and Mollie are both doing great. The weather was so nice that Mollie and I got a chance to go outside and get some fresh air! Meredith is still as content as day 1. She slept in 3-4 hour blocks on Wednesday night and Mollie was able to get some much needed (and deserved) rest. Meredith got to meet some of Mollie's friends as well when Miss Pam and Sarah came to visit Here's the proud parents!
Meredith was very photogenic yesterday as well and posed nicely for some great photos.
Logan came by again and we all had dinner together. Thank God for the ice cream they have for patients - it was the only thing that kept Logan focused on finishing dinner. So many distractions in a hospital - buttons, hoses, lights, more buttons...
Logan was great with Meredith again and he got to hold her all by himself. Don't call social services - I was just outside the frame :) The two of them look very comfortable together. He is still torn between calling her Meredith, Sister, or Chicken Nugget. (We had McDonalds on the ride home Wednesday so he associates her with nuggets)
We even got a great video of Logan telling Meredith he loves her!

The Big Day
The big day has finally come. The Sheely family woke from an anxiety filled slumber at 4:30am today to begin the process of welcoming another member into the family. After a quick breakfast for Logan and a pot of coffee for Daddy, we began the trek over to Parkland Medical Center. Logan's daycare doesn't open until 6:30am so our neighbors, the Mezquita's, graciously offered to open up their house to Logan at 5:30. Mollie and I drove to the hospital for our 6am appt. Around 5:40 we realized we forgot something and had to make a quick u-turn. We ended up getting to the hospital around 6:10. We paused for a quick self portrait in the parking lot.
The nurses accepted our apology for being late and began prepping Mollie for surgery. By 7am, they had monitored both Mollie's and the baby's vital signs and gave us the go-ahead for our 7:30 date with Baby #2.
I got to put on this cool outfit so I could be in the room although I was warned not to touch anything.
Several minutes of nervous swaying by me, and a whole lot of doctor type stuff, we welcomed a 8lbs, 6oz, 20 inch baby girl, Meredith Riley Sheely into the world.
They kept Meredith with us for the entire time. As of 7pm tonight, she had not been separated from us at all. They even gave her her first bath in the room with us.
She shivered a little but was not nearly as vocal as Logan was in his first bath.
Meredith had two visitors today as well. Both Grandma Kathy and Grandma Jill came up to visit our new addition.
She is such a mellow baby, she just latched on to whoever is holding her and is content to curl up and sleep. She only cried a few times the entire day. Here's hoping that is a harbinger of good (restful) things to come.
I also picked up Logan from daycare and brought him to see Meredith and Mommy. We stopped at the gift shop and he picked out a gift bag for Meredith with a stuffed giraffe and a bath set. He was very good with her and with some subtle reminders, he was very gentle. He can even say Meredith which is so cute.
